Conditions of Faculty Membership

The Faculty of Homeopathy accredits and sets the standards for the training, education and practice of homeopathy by statutorily regulated healthcare and veterinary professionals. Membership of the Faculty is open to professionals holding a current registration with a UK statutory regulatory healthcare or veterinary body or recognised overseas equivalent body.

The Associate and Affiliate levels of membership are not qualifications and do not confer any statement of a practitioner’s ability to practise homeopathy. Under no circumstances, therefore, should a healthcare or veterinary practitioner use Associate or Affiliate membership of the Faculty to state or imply a competence in homeopathy. Nor should Associate or Affiliate membership be used by a healthcare or veterinary professional to suggest any form of Faculty registration, endorsement or qualification. Associate and Affiliate membership does not confer the right to use as a title “Associate Member of the Faculty of Homeopathy”, “Affiliate Member of the Faculty of Homeopathy” or any abbreviated form in a way that could lead others to misinterpret these categories of membership as a formal qualification.

All members are bound to act within the competence of the healthcare or veterinary profession(s) for which they hold current registration. The Faculty of Homeopathy will defer to members’ professional bodies for advice on the scope and limitation of homeopathic practice that can be regulated within their profession.

Faculty members are also bound to act within the defined level of competence of their Faculty accredited training and qualification in homeopathy. Members may practise homeopathy beyond the limits of their Faculty accredited qualification only under supervision and as part of a Faculty of Homeopathy accredited training programme.

In order to ensure the highest standards of practice, the Faculty of Homeopathy encourage all practitioners to engage in regular CPD activity. This should be recorded and documented using a standard template, demonstrating evidence of reflection and impact on practice. There is an expectation that the range of CPD activity should cover a practitioner’s entire scope of practice. This will vary depending on the practitioners working pattern, however, it should include a range of CPD activities within both homeopathic and conventional practice.

CPD should not be viewed as an optional activity and it is in the best interests of patients, practitioners and the profession that CPD standards are maintained. As a member of the Faculty of Homeopathy of good standing, there is an expectation that practitioners who are LFHom’s, MFHom’s, VetMFHom’s or Fellows should engage in regular CPD, with a minimum of 12 hours of CPD activity per year which is relevant to homeopathy.

It is the responsibility of individual practitioners to maintain this standard and evidence may be requested as part of intermittent quality control checks. However, in the event of a complaint being made against a practitioner, the Faculty of Homeopathy, an appraiser, regulatory body, or other individuals may request copies of a practitioners CPD record. It is thus in everyone’s best interest that CPD standards are maintained.

The use of Faculty of Homeopathy membership or qualification status beyond the privileges set out in the Faculty of Homeopathy Act, its byelaws and regulations is prohibited.

Any breach of these conditions will be regarded as a disciplinary offence. Such a breach could lead to a referral to the Faculty’ s Complaints & Concerns Committee for investigation and the resulting disciplinary action could ultimately lead to expulsion from the Faculty. The Faculty Council may report the breach to the relevant statutory professional body following a recommendation of the Complaints & Concerns Committee.
